Respirator fit check

This short video will take you through the process of checking that your respirator is sealing properly. This video assumes that you have done a fit test and it focuses on ensuring the seals are working as intended.

It is important that you have had a formal fit test for your respirator before using it - this should be done at the time of purchase to ensure it is the right size and shape for your face (and repeatedly annually).  A fit test is carried out by an occupational hygienist and can be:

  • a qualititative test (are any particles getting through the filter - can you taste the substance being used?); or
  • quantitative test (a sophisticated count of how many particles are getting through).
