Why be GROWSAFE certified?
Agrichemicals are an important part of our production systems, but we are increasingly being questioned about the use of agrichemicals on food, and in the environment. If we want to maintain the ability to use agrichemicals in a practical way, then we all need to do our bit to illustrate that we are using them in a safe and responsible manner.
It is one thing to have confidence in your own skills and experience, but these days you require proof. A GROWSAFE Certificate is credible evidence for your customers, and the authorities, that you are meeting your obligations, and understand and use agrichemicals in a responsible and professional way.
The requirements for using agrichemicals today are complex, with an increasing number of legal requirements and obligations influencing how we handle and apply these products. There is also a real need to understand the risks in handling these products and to have the knowledge to ensure your own safety, and that of others.
If you are applying agrichemicals yourself, or supervising others, GROWSAFE training gives you confidence and peace of mind that you have to the skills and knowledge to ensure that is being done properly.
RMA and Regional Plan Requirements
Many regional plans require commercial users of agrichemicals to hold GROWSAFE certificates. Click here for regional council requirements for commercial users and contractors. GROWSAFE maintains a register of people with the higher level certificates so you can be sure you are employing someone with the skills and knowledge you need.
GAP Programmes
GROWSAFE certification is required by orchardists and growers under both the NZ GAP and GLOBAL GAP quality assurance programmes.
Accreditation
GROWSAFE certificates are issued to individuals to recognise their skills and performance. Organisations can gain a similar recognition through the GROWSAFE accreditation programme. A GROWSAFE accredited organisation has been through a thorough review of its systems and staff and is recognised as demonstrating best practice in safe, responsible and effective agrichemical use.
